My three year old is very much into petite sized things right now. He refers to anything little as “Ja-Ju sized”. (The Great Ja-Ju is his nickname.) It started when we recently used a public family bathroom where there was a regular sized toilet as well as a small child size one. He was so smitten with the idea and so his obsession with little things was born. Big forks are mama sized and small forks are Ja-Ju sized. Trucks are mama size. Sudan style cars are Ja-Ju sized. Big bike, little bike. My slippers, his slippers. Apples in the grocery store… honestly, the comparisons don’t end.

I find it rather endearing. But I find so many things about this age endearing. I (mostly) love the million and one questions. I love stopping on a trail to look at bugs. I love that he loves to spend time helping me in the kitchen, doing laundry, or even cleaning the yard. I found with my older son that the novelty of folding laundry wore off quick by age 5 so I’m milking have my little one as my sidekick as I do the sometimes mundane day to day tasks around the house.

The little man hasn’t been feeling 100% the past few days. He’s been congested and with little appetite. Having a sick baby breaks my heart. We’ve been doing lots of lounging around the house reading books and watching Bubble Guppies. Yesterday he requested a smoothie and I was more than happy to oblige the little man. Because he’s been congested, we stayed clear of dairy and I thought the mango would be gentle on his Ja-Ju sized tummy. As much as he’d love to use the knife, I do the cutting and he’s in charge of adding ice cubes and pouring in coconut milk. I like my smoothie on the tart side so keep that in mind if you make this. If you want it a little sweeter, add an extra tablespoon of honey.

The mangos are so delicious right now and because they’re in season, I’m seeing them in the grocery stores at great prices. Stock up and dig in! This smoothie makes enough for one hungry person or in our case, a mama sized smoothie and a Ja-Ju sized smoothie.

Have a good one!
