In the Kitchen with Uncommon Goods + Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed.

The old adage, it’s better to give than receive is pretty spot on. I truly love giving gifts more than I do receiving them. Gift giving is an art. If you’re good at it, it’s something that is thoughtful and planned. It’s not picking something up last minute because you feel obligated to give a gift. No, gift giving is much more. It’s finding the perfect trinket that reminds you of the recipient or buying a personalized something for someone that you know they’re going to love but would never buy for themselves. And it’s a fine line between finding something practical but still with a touch of whimsy.

These nesting containers rock. They make my food look better, don’t you think?

If I do say so myself, I’m a great gift giver. I buy gifts throughout the year and stash them in a guest closet when I see the perfect thing for the recipient. I have a basket full of cards for every occasional that vary from sentimental to totally inappropriate and crass- you know, a little something for everyone! And if I do happen to come up empty handed, when in doubt buy something for the kitchen. It’s a sure fire win!

One of my favorite resources for finding unique gifts is Uncommon Goods. If you haven’t thumbed through their catalog… well, you’re missing out. They’ve got funky, eclectic, handmade, unique, clever, a page just for women all the while covering useful and practical. Uncommon goods is committed to environment causes, supporting individual artists and giving back to the community. In a nut shell they rock. And they’re offering one of you a gift certificate to go shopping. I won’t blame you if you keep it for yourself but it’s also a great opportunity to buy something special for someone!

Here are a few of my favorite kitchen gifts:

1. Cheese Grater and Serving Plate

What’s not to love about this cheese grater. It’s so cute, isn’t it? I love the idea of serving a hunk of cheese at the table and letting guests grate their own. It would be a perfect addition to Taco Tuesday!

2. Brie Plate with Knife

I’m a sucker for cute pottery. Most people serve baked brie on a plate but a bowl makes much more sense. It’s rustic, it’s oven friendly and it’s a must for cheese lovers!

3. Reclaimed Cookbook Stand

Reclaimed timber and handmade, these cookbook stands are a must for any kitchen. In this technical day and age, this could be used for an iPad as well. Keep your books and touch screens smudge free.

4. Owl Mugs

I have a thing for owls. These mugs speak to me. They’re so cute and I imagine myself curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee.

5. Foldable Packbasket

This is the MacGyver of totes. It can be used messenger style, as a backpack or slung over your shoulder. Internal frames make it great for packing a picnic or hauling your stuff to the beach. When you’re all done, it collapses flat for easy storage. Cha-ching.

6. Flavor Infuser Water Bottle

A great and easy way to get yourself psyched to drink more water. You could essentially infuse any drink (wine spritzer, anyone?) but water is the obvious choice. The environmentalist me appreciates that it’s made of glass and not plastic.

7. Wine and Beverage Tote

Witty graphics, being able to drink wine incognito and a washable liner makes this tote a total win in my book. Extra credit for the tote being able to roll up when you’re done. It’s idea for camping, backpacking and taking on a picnic!

8. Nesting Storage Containers

I dig these nesting storage containers for a few reasons. The little girl in me loves the rainbow colors and because each because they’re color coordinated, it’s easy to find the matching lid per container. They are great for packing in a cooler too!
