Out of the Kitchen
I love this time of year as finally I feel like I can breath easily. It’s like a I take a gigantic inhale of breath in the beginning of December and don’t let it out until the beginning of May. I’ve spent the last few weeks catching up on some much neglected cleaning and organizing around the house. I’ve read two books in the last week and a half and I actually feel rested when I wake up in the morning. My kids and I are having some serious one on one time and I have to say, I’m loving it! Here’s what’s not going down in my kitchen this week!
Lavender oil by DoTERRA. Perhaps it’s why I’m sleeping so well. I rub a little on the palms of my feet and my temples every night before I retire for the evening. It’s relaxing, calming and I love the subtle smell it leaves on my pillow. It’s also great when I’m feeling anxious or hyped up. Psychological or not, a little rub on the wrists seems to quiet my mind.
Even though I won’t be planting my garden until mid June, I’m trolling the internet to find out everything I can on high altitude gardening. I’m making a list and planning what I’ll grow in my little 8×4 foot raised garden bed. I think I’ll stick with mostly greens, kale, carrots and radishes this year. I didn’t have much luck with my tomatoes last year but I’m determined to make it happen! Any fellow high altitude gardeners out there? Where do you order your seeds? Please share any books, links or info you have!
This Pumpkin Fig ancient grains granola from Purely Elizabeth didn’t last more than a few days in my house. BECAUSE I LOVE IT. Like really, really love it. It’s not overly sweet, it’s gluten free, loaded with good omegas and hearty grains, I can’t really say anything bad about it. Except the price tag. At $7.99 a bag, I don’t think I’ll be buying it often. I guess I need to start recipe testing and recreate it in my own kitchen! My friend Rebecca from Foodie with Family did an Ancient Grains Granola with Cranberries and Dark Chocolate last week. Perhaps I should use that as a guideline. Or just make it as is, it looks like the bomb dot com.
I’m so not a runner. Never have been, never will be. Unless I’m chasing down a soccer ball. But for whatever reason, every spring, I get a hankering for hitting the mountain trails that surround our house. Something about the soft trails and the smell of the mountain air makes me forget that I hate running and I’m heaving for air. These Solomon trail shoes are calling my name. I’m such a sucker for a cute pair of sneakers. Perhaps it’s the neon shoes that makes me want to trail run… whatever gets me moving, right?!
Did you know that Steve Martin plays in a band? Did you know he rocks the banjo? Did you know I love blue grass? Did you know that I love Edie Brickell even more? Do you know where I’m going with all these questions? No? Ok, let me tell you…
Steep Canyon Rangers + Steve Martin + Edie Brickell = Love Has Come for You
Watch it. Love it. And check to see if they’re coming to your city this summer on tour.
That’s it for this week. I’m headed to the Big Traveling Pot Luck tomorrow to meet up with old friends and new ones in the hills of California. Hope to meet you there if you’re going. I even plan on shaving my legs and washing my hair for this one…
Follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates throughout the weekend.
Be well, friends!! xoxo

I’m really excited to check out that lavender oil – I have used a couple of Bath & Body Works lavender products, but I think I’d rather stick with the real deal!
DoTERRA is the best. It’s pure and the real deal. Pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for 🙂
I am obsessed with your new layout. Love it. Nice work girl!
Thanks friend!!
I grew up listening to Steve Martin. My grandpa played the banjo like nobodies business, and there were always friends of his dropping by his shop to pick a little. So Yes! I knew about Steve Martin before SNL made him famous, for his humor. He is coming to a small outdoor venue in my city this summer, but he sold out in just a few hours, I was so bummed that I didn’t get online fast enough….who knew there were so many fans…I thought he was my secret! Ha! Anyway I’m babbling, fun to know someone else appreciates the banjo ; ) xoxo Sheila
