Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce
This is one of those basic recipes that every home cook needs in their arsenal. Today I’m sharing Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce and it is SO much better than anything store bought!
IS PIZZA SAUCE WORTH MAKING AT HOME?
Homemade pizza sauce is totally worth making from scratch! It relies on pantry ingredients, literally takes minutes to make, and it is SO much better than anything you can buy in the grocery store. Trust me. For years I used to use regular jarred marinara for my pizza and calzones but after making it from scratch a few times there is no going back!
HOW TO MAKE PIZZA SAUCE
Pizza sauce is seriously the easiest thing ever to make. It’s nothing more than sautĆ©ing a little minced garlic in some olive oil and then simmering tomato sauce, tomato paste, a few dried herbs, and a pinch of sugar. Literally that’s it. It’s done in under 20 minutes and the flavor is rich and concentrated!
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PIZZA SAUCE AND SPAGHETTI SAUCE?
You could easily swap spaghetti sauce for pizza sauce in most recipes (like I said, I’ve been doing it for years!) however it’s really not the same. Pizza sauce is thicker and has a more concentrated tomato flavor than spaghetti sauce. Pizza sauce gets cooked down until it’s dark and thick. It’s zestier. And, more delicious for pizza if that make sense.
HOW DO YOU STORE LEFTOVER PIZZA SAUCE?
I don’t can this pizza sauce with the intent for long term storage. I usually just make a batch (sometimes a double batch) and store the leftovers in the fridge for up to a few weeks. My kids have been super into make-your-own
calzones lately so we go through it quick enough. You could freeze any pizza sauce that you have leftover but one batch shouldn’t leave you with too much extra. I would say one batch makes 3-4 15-inch or so pizzas.
