Savory Swiss Scones with Apple and Sage
Flakey and buttery, these Savory Swiss Scones with Apple and Sage would be equally welcome at breakfast or dinner. A little sweet and mostly savory, these are the perfect accompaniment with a cup of coffee or tea. And trust me when I tell you that slathered with butter and honey is really the best way to enjoy them.
Or butter and jam. Or butter and apple butter. Or just butter. You get my point, don’t you? Butter on already buttery scones is totally acceptable, undeniably delicious and I don’t care what the doctors say- extra butter is always a good thing. A very good thing. And you can quote me on that.
I’ll take a scone over a muffin any day of the week. I love the flakey crumb and I appreciate the less sweet pastry as I usually slather my scones with the aforementioned butter and either jam or honey anyway. Taking something decadent and making it more decadent- it’s how I roll. It’s all about the making the most of it, you know? And in my world butter and jam rule.
I have worked with Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board for a few years now and I often like to joke with my family and friends that I will work for cheese. And if you love cheese like I do, you’d realize this is a pretty great gig. This month’s featured cheese is Swiss and I created this Savory Swiss Scones with Apple and Sage recipe for them to share on their blog, Wisconsin Cheese Talk. (Like I said before, it’s not a bad gig!)
I love the sweet and savoriness of these scones and they’re perfect to make this time of year as they highlight seasonal apples and fresh sage. The nutty swiss pairs perfectly with the other ingredients and I tell you these scones are a winner. Anyone that loves the combination of sweet and savory, these are for you!
The swiss is not only mixed into the scone dough but also sprinkled on top before baking. The swiss on top gets all crispy and toasty and melts around the edges and be still my heart, those edges will make a grown man cry. And make this mountain mama melt.
You can get the recipe HERE. Have a great weekend, everyone!!

Hi there! It looks like these links don’t work anymore – is there still a way to get this recipe?
