For a self proclaimed “part time vegetarian” and a bona fide foodie, I can appreciate a really good vegetarian burger. Too often I’ve gone to a bbq and the choices on the grill are always the same: pre-portioned burger patties that are flat and grey, poor quality hot dogs, and if I’m lucky, a few veggies patties that were simply an afterthought – pushed off to the side, leaving much to be desired. I pick the lesser of evils and go with the mushy veggie burger, only to be disappointed every time.

When Wildwood asked me if I wanted to sample some of their products, I immediately honed in on the Original Veggie Burgers as I’m on always on the lookout for a good vegetarian burger option. I like to start with a basic veggie burger so I can mix up my own toppings and flavors to make it my own. I was taken with the fact that the burgers are gluten free, non-GMO verified and made with sprouted soybeans.

We’ve been grilling up a storm these past few weeks taking advantage of the last bit of summer weather. For my carnivore loving husband, we’ve been cooking up quite a bit of steak and chicken. If I was going to get the mr and my kids to eat veggie burgers for dinner, I knew I had to get a little creative and make them really shine. Ever since I made these Greek Tacos, we’ve been digging the Mediterranean flavors and so I decided to try the same flavors in dressing up the veggie burgers. I made a quick aioli with roasted red peppers and roasted garlic, both things I picked up at the olive bar at my local grocery store to make things even simpler. I topped the burger with greens from my garden, grilled red onions and a sprinkle of cherry tomatoes and crumbled feta. These were a hit all around. I’m happy to report my husband didn’t miss the meat at all. My 6 year old devoured an entire burger (minus all the toppings) as he is a ketchup only kind of kid. My 3-year-old wouldn’t eat them but coming from a kid who doesn’t eat anything except for yogurt and popcorn right now, I don’t trust his palate for a second.

Wildwood makes a variety of meatless burgers and crumbles if you’re looking for a quality vegetarian protein option. I’d highly recommend the burgers and they’re especially good grilled. In fact, you’d be the hit of the next potluck if you threw these bad boys on the charcoal. The grey burgers and dogs won’t have anything on these veggie patties! And because I promised a giveaway, let’s get to it! Do you want a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card? (Duh, of course you do!) All you have to do is tell me what Wildwood product you’d like to try and how you’d use it in your next meal. Greek Veggie Burgers

  • 2 Wildwood Farms Organic Original Veggie Burger Patties
  • 1 large red onion
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup vegannaise or organic mayonnaise
  • 1 large roasted red bell pepper
  • 4 cloves of roasted garlic
  • fresh lettuce
  • crumbled feta cheese
  • quartered cherry tomatoes
  • 2 buns of your choice

  1. Heat the grill to medium-high.
  2. Slice the red onion into 1/4-inch thick slices and brush both sides with the olive oil.
  3. Grill the onion slices, turning often, about 15 minutes total.
  4. The burgers need 10 minutes total on the grill: 5 minutes per side just to crisp them up and warm them through.
  5. While burgers and onions are grilling, make aioli by placing vegannaise or mayonnaise in the base of a food processor with the roasted red pepper and garlic. Pulse to combine throughly.
  6. When ready to serve, place a patty on each bun and spread generously with the aioli. Top with grilled onions and a sprinkling of crumbled feta and chopped tomato.
  7. Enjoy!
