Mountain Mama Trail Mix

This sweet and salty combo is nothing short of addictive. Mountain Mama Trail Mix, as I’ve nicknamed it, has quickly become my favorite combo because it’s filled with all my Trader Joe’s favorites and it’s chocolate-y, nutty, sweet, and soooooooooooooo good.

I made a version of this trail mix on accident. I love going to Whole Foods for their bulk section. Even though they have dozens of already made trail mix options I can never decide one one. I have to take a little of this and a little of that. And, then I start adding mixed nuts, chocolate items, and dried fruit until I get just what I want. I never know how to charge myself so I average the price and then pick a trail mix that reflects. I’m sure the cashiers just love me!

I realize it’s not all that honest. And not at all how the bulk section is meant to be used. But I know I can’t be alone. Right? Please tell me you do the same thing! It’s not like I’m stealing or anything. Anyhow, this is how Mountain Mama Trail Mix was born. I was starving (never a great way to be in the grocery store) and needed something stat. I made a version of this and then chowed it in my car, on my way to pick up the boys from camp. It was so good that I wanted to make a big batch of it to have on hand!

I found all the ingredients I needed at Trader Joe’s. Even though I like to poach the bulk isle at Whole Foods I don’t really grocery shop there that much. (Hello, whole paycheck.) Trader Joe’s has an awesome, packaged dried fruit and nut section and it’s so much cheaper. Bonus too that have so many great snacks. It’s like a DIY trail mix mecca!

Next time your at Tj’s pick up all these goodies and make this! Great on their own and ridicky-donk when combined. Peanut butter filled pretzels, mini peanut butter cups, dried cherries, raw walnuts, and lightly salted almonds. Crunchy, salty, sweet, nutty, and chocolate. What else could you want in a snack? I pack this in kids lunches, my tennis bag, we take it on road trips and the boat, and it’s a great bedtime snack when you just need a little something, something.
