Salted Caramel Apple Butter
This Salted Caramel Apple Butter is off the charts. Dare I say it’s too good? I only say that it’s too good because I can’t stop eating it. I guess that’s not really a problem though, is it? This post is sponsored by Dixie Crystals. You can get full recipe HERE
SALTED CARAMEL APPLE BUTTER
Salted caramel + homemade apple butter = the BEST thing to come out of my kitchen this month. The apple butter is homey, has the perfect amount of spice, is ridiculously easy to make, and the final product is the perfect homemade goodie to gift this holiday season.
MAKING APPLE BUTTER
Any type of apple will work but I prefer the granny smith apple for this recipe. The tartness of a granny smith counters the sweet sugar and caramel. The firm texture of a granny smith makes for a nicely textured final product. I don’t even peel the apples. The skin is full of natural pectin so it helps thicken the apple butter. You puree the apple to the point that you can’t tell the skin is even there!
MAKING SALTED CARAMEL
The trickiest part of this recipe is making the salted caramel. While not hard, it does take a little finesse. The caramel can be made a few days ahead and simply stirred into the apple sauce at the end. My recommendation is to use unsalted butter and kosher salt. It makes for the most consistent caramel. Don’t be afraid to double the caramel so you can eat what you don’t need with a spoon. You have my permission. 🙂
STORING SALTED CARAMEL APPLE BUTTER
Apple Butter will last in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Not that will last that long! My favorite way to eat this is slathered on a toasted english muffin. It’s also delicious on a bowl of oats or a yogurt-granola bowl. My kiddo likes to dip apples into it….apples on apples….it’s a thing!
